White Rabbit - the video is out!

I was recently comissioned by up-coming prog rock band Ebony Tower. They wanted me to make something based on the concept art for their latest album, to feature in the promo video for their new song, "White Rabbit." They wanted something skeletal - 'Not a nice bunny, a White Rabbit that is representitive of all that's going wrong in the world today.'

Ebony Tower's White Rabbit

The mask was constructed in papier-mache, fabric and leather, and was one of my most ambitious projects to date. It was a great honour to be approached, and I hope that I have done their music and vision justice.

There are more photos - and a link to the final video, over at my website Blog. :)  Go and see!

Pricing review on Xothique, and a mask sale on Ebay!

I've always been cautious with my pricing. However, the past two commissions I've completed have paid me more than I've invoiced for - because they have thought that the mask was worth more than I was charging...

So, I think that's probably a sign that I should review my pricing structure very soon. ;)

In the meantime, and contrary to what I said above, I am currently selling some of my older masks on eBay, at bargain prices!

I am doing this to make room for my new range of designs. The masks in my sale are all  individual pieces that I created whilst exploring the possibilities of leather as a new medium, so I didn't really know what was achievable, or which direction I was going to take the craft. As such, they aren't as intricate or detailed as my latest work, but I can guarantee that the quality is still as high as you would expect from me. I'll be putting one or two designs up a week, as I create new masks to replace them on my website shop, so keep checking back. You may find yourself a bargain.

Arrival...

Well, I jumped on the bandwagon and got myself one of these Dreamwidth accounts. I like the idea of the site - live journal for creatives, and thought it might be prudent to grab my username right at the start.
Given the amount I currently update Live Journal, I don't know how useful I'll find this, but all advertising is good, right?
If you have Dreamwidth, drop by and say 'Hi!'. If not, no worries, I'll be cross posting all content here and over at my Xothblog too.

Curently working on getting a few of my latest masks onto my website, watch this space.

Latest mask - and Steampunk Style.

I've not updated here for a while, but I'm sufficiently pleased with this mask that I thought I'd share it.
Presenting 'The Alchemist', a commission designed by [info]stroppy_prof to be worn at the Carnival in Venice in February 2009. Mmm leather and rivets. :)

I'm currently considering making a variation of this design without the caduceus, in rich brown and brass, which could work with the Steampunk Genre.

And on the subject of Steampunk - here's a bit of fun;

Your result for Reincarnation Placement Exam...

Reclusive Artist

51% Intrigue, 59% Civilization, 39% Humanity, 27% Urbanization.

We think we've found a place for you.

Your answers indicate that you're very fond of the fruits of civilization... for example, education and technology. But, in some twist of irony, you're not too fond of the pressures of civilization... you know, human beings and crowds and working together. We found you a place where you could enjoy an erudite existence, live a life that's intriguing and not entirely secure -- but far from the madding crowd.

Removed from civilization and humanity, yet educated and sophisticated, you'll make the perfect reclusive artist... An eccentric that produces irresistibly attractive masterpieces. Your art will make people swoon, and yet you will despise your audience. Your audience will probably dislike you as well, though they will go on admiring your work. So it all balances out, and your patrons will leave you alone to shape beauty in the wild, dangerous parts of the world where people won't pester you so much. Probably, you will write under a pseudonym, and mutter a lot when a rare admirer comes calling. If you feel really adventurous, you can pursue the role of a political dissident.

As you age, you will grow into the role of an incorrigible curmudgeon.

You artists, you're all the same.
